Let it snow, Let it snow, Keep the ICE

Ok so by now we ALL know that Kentucky along with several others got hit by this big storm...let me just start by saying that this is not what I ordered. I ordered SNOW not ICE. Our house has been tossed upside down, backwards, and around again. We lost electricity on a Tuesday morning and thankfully got it back late Friday night. But you know we had to pack up two dogs, two kids and ourselves to go to my moms house who had no electric either. She has whats called a fireplace or two, yes those became our best friend. The first night we were loving....everyone needs to rough it just a little. We roasted hot dogs and marshmallows in the fireplace, I even baked potatoes. (at this point thinking this isn't so bad). The next morning we ate cereal and donuts...okay, day two, I am ALL out of ideas, no cash in hand (did you know I worked at a bank, valuable lesson #1 ALWAYS have cash somewhere). No electricity, no gas, no debit card machines working and very little food to feed the SIX ppl staying under one roof. I guess my husband already knew lesson #1, so he was a life saverwith the cash. Lesson #2...kids in a house with parents that otherwise normally work, with no good food, no baybsitter as Maria called it (TV) no hot water, no lights and no heat is not a pretty site. Ohh and no grandparents to take care of them...even worse...FYI my mom left the house on Tues. morning for work ( at the electric company Inter county energy) and came home the following Tuesday night. It's a shame salary positions don't get overtime. Now she's back at work for no telling how many more days/nights. Several ppl still do not have electric but they are working as hard as they can...I PROMISE. Day 3 and 4 we finally got to Bryans generator and hooked up two refridgerators, and a deep freeze full of a BRAND NEW BEEF we had killed, along with all of the necessities like a coffee pot, curling iron, TV, and lamps. Needless to say it has been an eventful week. I am still not caught up with all the laundry and house work from being gone, you would think that not being there it would have stayed clean but with all of the tracking in and out we did, checking on our house, including the cat and the water pipes...I think that my house got more dirty than if we had been there. Not to mention that poor little Austin (who is my "schedule" and "routine" kid) is ALL OUT OF WHACK. He hasn't stopped whinning and being crabby since last Wednesday. He litterally wakes up in the morning attaches himself to my leg and cries when we pry him away so that I can go to work. Hopefully we will get him all back on track by week-end. I will get some pictures up soon, until then keep warm and love electricity.
